Distribution test feeders

Research Institute for Advanced Network Technology (RIANT), Waseda University, developed a benchmark test feeder, in collaboration with Minato Discrete Structure Manipulation System project, JST ERATO. The test feeder is designed based on a real distribution network in Japan. It can be used to evaluate such as, but not limited to, loss minimization algorithms. The test feeder includes 648 buses (sections), 468 switches (108 of them are tie switches), and 24 three-wire wye feeders. Loads are unbalanced three-phase and are connected in delta; they are assumed to be uniformly distributed along a line section, and are modeled as constant current. The dataset also contains hourly-observed loads in a single day. See the following paper for details.

The followings are descriptions about the data files. The figure attached below shows a part of the test feeder, which helps to understand the data files.

Swed.dat

This file specifies the topology of distribution network. Each line includes:

Section ID, both ends of the section (node IDs), and a flag (no use).

Since sections include line sections as well as switches in this dataset, IDs of all switches are identified by switches.dat.

LNewSL.dat

This file specifies peak loads at each section. Active/reactive powers in the file are represented as load currents. Each line includes:

Time (no use), section ID, both ends of the section (node IDs), active power in ph-0, reactive power in ph-0, active power in ph-1, reactive power in ph-1, active power in ph-2, and reactive power in ph-2.

The hourly data are also found at LNewSL/LNewSL{Time}.dat.

LNewZ.dat

This file specifies impedance at each section. Each line includes:

Section ID, phase, both ends of the section (node IDs), resistance in ph-0, reactance in ph-0, resistance in ph-1, reactance in ph-1, resistance in ph-2, and reactance in ph-2.

LIlimit.dat

This file specifies ampacities (the maximum current allowed) at each section. Each line includes:

Section ID, both ends of the section (node IDs), ampacity in ph-0, ampacity in ph-1, and ampacity in ph-2.

LVlimit.dat

This file specifies voltage administration ranges allowed at each node. Each line includes:

Node ID, minimum voltage, and maximum voltage.

root.dat

This file specifies root sections, which are directly connected to transformers. The file includes load currents as well as impedance for each root section; loads have no reactive power, and impedance is common among all phases. Each line includes:

Time (no use), node ID, active power in ph-0, active power in ph-1, active power in ph-2, resistance, and reactance.

The hourly data are also found at root/root{Time}.dat.

NrootLDC.dat

This file specifies sending voltage at root sections. Each line includes:

Time (no use), node ID, and sending voltage.
